05Stress Does Not Arrive With a Siren
Most people think stress comes from doing too much. I used to think so too. Stress comes from not noticing when to stop. It does not kick your door down. It shows up as one more task, one more favor, one more email, one more “I’ll just finish this,” and you do not feel it building until it spills.
I learned this in the least dramatic place possible: my kitchen, holding a cup of matcha, staring at the microwave. That story and four others are in the videos above. Together they make one argument. Before you can lead anyone else, you have to notice your own temperature.

“Your body has limits, even if your calendar pretends it doesn’t.”
– Dr. Christiane Schroeter

Step 01
Pause Long Enough to Notice
When was the last time you paused long enough to notice how you are actually doing? Not your schedule. Not your inbox. You.
Most people cannot remember. They keep moving forward while their energy, their focus, and their patience quietly drift off track. Nothing dramatic happens, which is exactly why nobody stops. A Petite Practice® starts here, with a pause short enough to fit in a real day and honest enough to tell you something.

Step 02
The Most Dangerous Button in My House
I like my matcha warm, not hot. The microwave does not care. So I heat it, add 30 seconds, then another 30, then a little more because I am already standing there. Every so often I push it too far and the cup overflows. No explosion. It just drips over the edge and makes a mess.
After one overflow, you never open that microwave door the same way again. That is how stress works. We add it in 30-second bursts, one more meeting, one more late night, one more "I should," and the bill does not come right away. Delayed bills are the ones that bankrupt high performers. Liquids in a microwave can superheat and look calm until you move the cup. So can you.

Step 03
Mine Did Not Explode. It Leaked.
I was looking at a photo of myself, not in a critical way. I just thought, that woman looks exhausted. A second later it hit me. That woman was me, and I had not noticed.
Nothing drastic had happened. I adjusted, compensated, kept going. From the outside everything looked fine. Inside, my patience was shorter and my curiosity quieter. The problem was never that I could not handle my life. I was handling too much without asking what was replenishing me. Functioning without vitality still counts, and slow leaks are more dangerous than explosions because they never force a change.
Watch step 03 →
Step 04
It Was Never About the Sleep
For years I slept four or five hours a night, sometimes less. Here I was, a leadership coach who teaches energy and focus, and I could not get my own sleep under control. Shame crept in. Not "this isn't working" but "what is wrong with me?"
Shame keeps you frozen. The shift came when I stopped making it about who I was and started looking at what I was doing. Then I asked for help, in my case from a small ring that tracked my sleep and handed me data without judgment. Instead of guessing, I could see. Instead of judging, I could adjust. Earlier bedtime by a little, steadily. It worked because it was small enough to repeat.

Step 05
Jealousy Is the Wobble
Think of your life as a Jenga tower. Every block is something you want: confidence, clarity, a pace of work you can sustain. Jealousy shows up the moment you see a block in someone else's tower that you have not placed in yours.
That block is not missing. It is unplaced. Missing sounds like "not for me." Unplaced sounds like "not yet." When people rush a block they want, they stack too much at once, copy someone else's structure, and skip the foundation. The tower collapses, eventually. So the next time jealousy shows up, do not shame it. Ask one question: what is the next block I can place well?
Watch step 05 →Maintenance Beats Rescue
Most people treat recovery like a fire extinguisher. They rest when they crash. They slow down when symptoms force them to. Your body prefers steady input, the way a mug warmer keeps a drink at one temperature instead of reheating it in bursts.
A mug warmer in your life looks ordinary. A ten-minute walk most days. A real lunch break, away from the desk. Two minutes of breathing between meetings. A weekly planning moment where you remove one thing instead of adding one. No serious system is run until failure. It is monitored, adjusted, and serviced. You deserve the same.
Every one of these small inputs is a Petite Practice, and the full system is in Petite Practice: Small, Steady Steps to a Life of Momentum and Real Change. It starts with noticing, which is what the next 30 seconds are for.
A Simple Petite Practice®
This week: the 30-second body scan.
Before you press the next 30-second button in your life, set a timer for 30 seconds and ask: where do I feel heat right now? Pressure, buzzing, tension. Where do I feel cold? Flat, numb, drained.
Then one question about what you were about to add: if I do not add this, what actually changes? Very often the honest answer is nothing important. That is valuable information.
Pick one kind thing you can do for your body in the next hour. One answer, one small action. That is how you notice the temperature before it spills.
