Old Fashioned Mocktail

I originally nicknamed it The Streets of New York because it reminded me of something I had there on a weekend visit.

Ingredients
1/2
cup
white sugar
1/2
cup
water
1
honeycrisp apple
2
cinnamon sticks
1
tsp
whole cloves
2
long strips peel of an orange
Peel of a lemon
Instructions
Bring 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup water to a simmer in pot on stove while stirring gently occasionally.
Slice a Honeycrisp apple and add to pot along with 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 tsp whole cloves.
Add two long strips peel of an orange, peel of a lemon to the pot.
Squeeze half of the orange into the dissolved sugar syrup while it simmers at very low heat.
Simmer for 15 minutes, don’t let any bubbles form.
Then cool. Strain out the apples, peels, spices (or leave the cinnamon sticks if want)
Store in glass jar in fridge up to 1 month.
Add teaspoon to adult beverages like rum or bourbon with splash of soda and apple slice.
Add 1 teaspoon to cranberry seltzer and garnish with disk of apple slice and orange twist for mocktail.
Or add to hot tea with orange peel or in some warm apple cider and garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick.
