Women in Wellness (Part 1) w/ Pilin Anice

Her Inner Critic Never Goes Away. She Just Refuses to Let It Drive.

Pilin Anice has built a life around movement: yoga, barre, dance, meditation, coaching, all of it.

But like all of us, she carries an inner critic, the voice that lists every reason not to try.

She borrows an image from Elizabeth Gilbert: your creativity drives the car.

The critic can ride in the backseat. It does not get the map.

In this episode of the Happy Healthy Hustle Podcast, instructor and health coach Pilin Anice shares why joy is her superpower, how she keeps her inner critic in the backseat, and the three pillars, movement, meditation, and mindfulness, that anchor her life.

She finds a spark worth learning from in every person she meets.

This is a warm, grounding conversation about tuning into your own spirit.

2:51 Her Superpower: Joy
[00:02:51] Pilin Anice: My superpower is joy. I believe the essence of all of us is joy, and joy allows us to tap into our personal power. It gives us something to anchor into in challenging moments. No matter what I am moving through, joy is always there as my foundation. [00:03:30] Pilin Anice: When I am stressed, I come back to my breath and find some movement. I believe in movement as medicine, in movement to transform those difficult moments and reconnect me to my joy.
3:58 The Inner Critic in the Backseat
[00:03:58] Pilin Anice: A challenge all women face is the inner critic, the part of us that shows up and tells us what we should not be doing. There is a book by Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic, where she talks about letting your creativity drive the car. The inner critic can be in the backseat, but it does not get the map, the GPS, or the wheel. Whenever I have a challenging moment, I remember that I am driving the car, not the little voice in the backseat.
5:48 Finding Inspiration in Everyone
[00:05:48] Pilin Anice: My influences are truly all women, and every person I meet. I just led a retreat at Kripalu, and every single person there had their wisdom and inspired me. We are all on this journey together. Right now my father is in hospice care, which is part of life and its cycles. I have found so much inspiration in connecting with others who have had that experience, and it is giving me wisdom to move through this time. I find inspiration in all beings.
8:30 The Cookbook: Movement, Meditation, Mindfulness
[00:08:30] Pilin Anice: I am working on a cookbook about the three pillars of wellness that changed my life, movement, meditation, and mindfulness. I believe those three pillars are the tools to help us find and live an optimal life, connected in all ways of our being. It is a cookbook with a little sprinkle of extras, with recipes to nourish ourselves completely, mind, body, and spirit.
10:20 The Choice That Started It All
[00:10:20] Pilin Anice: The experience that changed my life was enrolling at the Integrative Institute of Nutrition, IIN. When I enrolled in that program thirteen years ago, it was the catalyst to start my wellness journey and to build a wellness business for myself, connecting the mind, body, and spirit and backing it up with nutrition.
12:14 Meditation Every Day, Movement by Feel
[00:12:14] Pilin Anice: I listen to my body. I am a trainer in the Mirror, so when I teach I am working out for two hours, three days built in. Then I take time for my own practice. Meditation is always going to happen every single day. My movement practice is inspired by my mood and what I feel I need in the moment, whether that is yoga, a barre class, or a run outside now that it is spring.
14:07 Move by Intuition, Not by Rule
[00:14:07] Pilin Anice: There is a commitment and a devotion to moving and activating the body in some way, but it does not have to be just one thing if that is not what I am intuitively wanting to do in that moment. Structure the essentials, and then let intuition guide the rest. [00:15:00] Dr. Christiane Schroeter: Label your days in a way that brings you joy. Thank you so much, Pilin.
